As we trace the history of the legislature from the late 1890s to the present day, it is clear that there is an intricate link between the history of the country in general and the constitutional developments. This close relationship, between constitutional developments and the history of parliament, arises from the fact that a constitution creates and determines the nature, composition, functions and authority of parliament. Hence, the development of the Parliament of Zimbabwe can be understood in the context of constitutional developments that took place, in the colonial period, right from the time of British South Africa Company (BSAC) in 1898 to the present day
