  • One hundred and twenty (120) shall be elected by voters registered on the common roll for 120 common roll constituencies
  • Eight (8) shall be Provincial Governors, appointed by the President
  • Ten (10) shall be chiefs elected in accordance with the Electoral Law
  • Twelve (12) shall be appointed by the President.


The 2000 elections brought a dramatically different situation with for the first time significant  opposition, in the form of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) in Parliament.
